Alprazolam is used to treat concern and panic disorder caused by depression. It belongs to a group of medications called benzodiazepines which act on the brain and nervous (central nervous system) to produce a calming effect. It works by enhancing the impact of a particular natural chemical in the body. This medication may contain some dangerous ingredients, may not be distributed by a licensed pharmacy.

You should not take Alprazolam if:
If you are using Alprazolam while you are pregnant, your baby could become dependent on the medication. This can be life-threatening withdrawal symptoms in th baby after it is born. Babies born depending on habit-forming medicine may need medical treatment for several weeks.
Observations:
-The lowest feasible, effective dose should be administered, and the need for continued care reassessed often.
-Dosage should be reduced slowly when discontinuing therapy or when decreasing the daily dosage.
-The daily dosage may be reduced by no more than 0.5 mg every three days; therefore, some patients may require an even slower dosage trimming.
-The dose of enlarge-release tablets may be enlarged at intervals of 3 to 4 days in an increase of no more than 1 mg per day.
Older or debilitated patients:
Immediate-release tablets/ODTs:
-Starting dose: 0.25 mg orally administered 2 or 3 times a day
Increase-release tablets:
-Starting dose: 0.5 mg orally once a day
Call emergency medical attention. An overdose of Alprazolam can be lethal. Overdose symptoms may include extreme drowsiness, confusion, muscle weakness. Coordination, feeling light-headed and fainting.
Call emergency medical help if you sign an allergic reaction to the medication, difficulty breathing: swelling of your mouth and face, lips, tongue, or throat. It can slow or stop your breathing, mainly if you have recently used an opioid medication, alcohol, or drug that slows down your breathing, if you are hard to wake up, or if you stop breathing.

The sedative effects of Alprazolam may last expanded in older adults. Random falls are common in elderly patients who take benzodiazepines.

You should avoid drinking alcohol. Dangerous symptoms or maybe occur. Avoid driving or undertaking hazardous activity until you know how Alprazolam will affect you. Drowsiness or dizziness can cause accidents, falls, or severe injuries. Please note that certain food items like grapefruit might interact with this medicine and lead to adverse effects. Avoid the use of grapefruit products.
Occasionally it is not safe to use certain medicines at the same time. Some medications can affect your blood levels of other drugs you take, which may enlarge side effects or make the drugs less effective. Taking Alprazolam with other drugs that make slow or sleepy your breathing can cause dangerous side effects or death. Inform your doctor before using opioid medication, a sleeping pill, a muscle relaxer, prescription cough medicine, or medicine for depression or seizures. Many drugs can interact with Alprazolam. This includes instruction and over-the-counter medication, herbal products, and vitamins. Not all possible interactions are listed here.
